New layout, same me
After 1 month of total inactivity, I woke up one day and decided, I'm gonna rehaul my website. And so I did! I spent a whole day messing with VS Code and it's finally hereee (at least, well 3 days ago as of writing). It feels so nice, the website is less of a stranger and more 'me'. And I'm even prouder that I made the layout myself <3
A bit of a background on the layout, it's actually supposed to be for my VN/otome games page and I'm still proud of making that, I think it's a pretty big-brained idea if you don't mind me tooting my own horn lmao I took that code and tweaked it to what it is right now because some features of the former didn't really work with what I have in mind. And what's better is... my whole website is more coherent both inside and outside and the perfectionist in me is pretty satisfied :") And it's cool that my passion for the website is refreshed and I feel more connected to it than before. Prior to the small hiatus, I just made my bookshelf page but wasn't really satisfied with what I made and ended up being disappointed in myself. As always I thought a break would do me good and I really appreciated how having a personal website doesn't really pressure me to log-in and update everyday, it'll still be there when I feel like coming back and I wouldn't feel FOMO as much as social media.
Some changes I made:
- I changed media log from something I have to update everyday like a microblog to something like a list, heavily inspired by others like hillhouse and honey-cream. I think... I don't have enough brain capacity to commit to update things everyday, especially with my ADHD. I feel like this approach is better to maintain consistently.
- I'm planning to change my blog entries that were supposed to be daily as well to weekly/less-frequent-than-weekly life updates a la Megan Rhiannon's attic archives. Again, I don't want to update this site as a chore so I'm just going to go with my vibes while still maintaining it a 'personal' website. I'm still thinking of a 'title' for it, attic archives just sounds so cool oml
- In addition to an updated media log, I thought of playthrough logs. This is more like an informal video game 'review' and more self-indulgent because I'm totally biased with my thoughts lol I made this website to write about video games and everything I love after all. I posted my first one here~
- With the imminent shuthown of 123guestbook, I moved mine to ataboook.org which is a part of nekoweb.org :o!! I'm thankful to everyone who left comments on my previous one, much appreciated!
- I rehauled my bookshelf page with another layout made by yours truly! :3 I'm proud of this one because it closely resembles Notion and I'm thinking of sharing it as a resource soon
Future plans for the site
- Make backgrounds and share as site assets and maybe learn pixel art on the way
- Photo album page as memory-keeping (this plan is still up in the air ^^")
- Commonplace pages of stuff I want to keep
- Work on my WIP collection pages
That's pretty much all I can say for now. Overall I'm really happy with the redesign and I feel like I'm slowly getting in the groove of maintaining a personal website with modest expectations of myself. It's amazing what a redesign did to my brain, it's almost the same dopamine I get when I move furniture in my room for no reason.
Currently I'm playing through Cupid Parasite and writing a zine for my OTP as a small personal project and hopefully I can put out another playthrough log in the coming weeks. Until then, see you on the next entry ☺
